In this session, we give centre stage to the Young European Ambassadors (YEAs) from the EU’s Western Balkan candidate countries: the Eastern Trio – Ukraine, Moldova and Georgia – and a renewed EU aspirant, Armenia. Representing a generation shaped by geopolitical turbulence and resilience, the European Young Ambassadors will bring first-hand perspectives from countries navigating the complex path towards EU membership.
Moving beyond institutional debates and technical chapters, this discussion explores how enlargement is experienced domestically. It delves into the hopes it inspires, the frustrations it generates, and the political and societal challenges it faces. How strong is public support for enlargement? Where does scepticism emerge? What does ‘European integration’ mean in everyday life? And what does the EU need to better understand about the realities on the ground?
Moderated by Tinatin Akhvlediani (Research Fellow, CEPS), the session serves as a bridge between Brussels and future EU citizens – ensuring that EU enlargement is discussed with the generation who will ultimately live its consequences.
