Since September 2017 Lawrence Norton rejoined U.S government service as the new U.S. Treasury Representative to the EU.
He arrives in Europe having worked for five years at the International Monetary Fund, where he was a Senior Economist in the Western Hemisphere Department, and helped design and monitor Haiti’s credit facility with the IMF.
Lawrence previously served as an Advisor to the U.S Executive Director at the IMF, and prior to that, was the desk economist responsible for eurozone and EU issues at the U.S. Treasury from 2009 until 2011.
He began his career at the U.S. Commerce Department, where he focused on international trade subsidy cases. Lawrence holds an Master’s degree from Yale University, and pursued his undergraduate studies at the Pennsylvania State University.
