Before his appointment as a professor, Mr Yalcin was the deputy director of the ifo Center for International Economics. He holds a doctoral degree in economics from Tübingen University for his thesis on the role of uncertainty in international FDI decisions of firms. Amongst others, he analysed the potential long-term welfare effects that would occur in the absence of a deepened customs union between the EU and Turkey. His current research topics include the impact of the EU-Mercosur FTA on the German economy, the consequences of US protectionism and the EU Commission’s proposal for a New Anti-Dumping Methodology. He regularly advises the German government and the European Parliament on trade policy issues.
